ALROSA says resumes production at pit after covid suspension

MOSCOW, Jul 14 (PRIME) -- Russian diamond producer ALROSA has resumed the at the Zarnitsa pit in the Yakutia republic suspended in 2020 as the market sagged during the pandemic, the company said in a statement on Wednesday.

"Resumption of mining at Zarnitsa will not affect the group’s production guidance because enrichment of the ore will start only next year,” Udachninsky CEO Sergei Pavlenko said.

“Expected production in 2022 stands at about 600,000 carats. The production capacity will amount to about 2.5 million tonnes of ore per year from 2022."

The company plans to produce about 700,000 tonnes of ore in 2021 and send it to the Udachninsky ore-dressing plant.
